Doctoral candidate Jin Rui Yap presents her research at the Conference "The Dynamics of Critical Infrastructures in Cities"

Jin Rui Yap, a doctoral candidate at Prof. Bryan Adey’s Chair of Infrastructure Management at ETH Zurich and the Future Cities Laboratory Global, participated in the conference The Dynamics of Critical Infrastructures in Cities, organized by the Research Training Group KRITIS at Technische Universität Darmstadt from 19–21 March 2025.

In her talk, Transformation Approaches in Urban Transportation, she shared insights from her research on path dependencies and their role in shaping urban mobility transitions. Using an integrated land-use and transport (LUT) model, her study explores how infrastructure investments and spatial structures reinforce existing travel behaviors, potentially limiting the effectiveness of mobility transition plans. The research, based on simulations of mobility and land-use patterns in Singapore, underscores the need to address entrenched dynamics when designing sustainable urban transportation strategies.
