The IM Chair hosts an online seminar with the Arup Bridge Community in East Asia

On 4 September 2024 the PhD candidates Steven Chuo and Josia Meier, together with Prof. Bryan Adey from the Chair of Infrastructure Management at ETH Zurich, held an online seminar with the Arup Bridge Community in East Asia on the topic “Estimating future preventive bridge interventions and the consequences of postponement”.

In the online seminar, they introduced their latest research and development on using digitalisation and existing data to generate approximate overviews of required interventions 10-20 years ahead of time, including estimates of component-level bridge interventions, possession windows, likely costs, and the increases in failure risks if interventions are postponed, with special emphasis on bridging the gap between engineering calculations and the required estimates of probabilities and consequences of bridges not operating as intended, as well as the use of BIM to facilitate communication.
