PhD students Hamed Mehranfar, Steven Chuo and Yushu An present their posters at the CSFM 2024!

PhD students Hamed Mehranfar and Steven Chuo as well as PhD student Yushu An from Prof. Bryan Adey's Chair of Infrastructure Management presented at the 3rd annual symposium of the Center for Sustainable Future Mobility (CSFM), which took place on 29 May 2024 at ETH Zurich.

Hamed Mehranfar and Steven Chuo presented their poster titled “STABILITY: Improving Railway Intervention Planning through Digitalisation”.

As part of their STABILITY research project in collaboration with the SBB, the two Doctoral Students from Prof. Bryan Adey’s Chair of Infrastructure Management presented how they propose to enhance the intervention planning process by considering train scheduling and enabling the optimal integration of digital tools. This will streamline the estimation of asset condition state and optimized grouping of future interventions in defined intervals, leading to improved effectiveness and efficiency of intervention planning in the railway industry.

Their poster was nominated for the Best Poster Award, and the research project generated resonance with academic and industry participants at the symposium.

Yushu an presented the poster entitled: “OptXR: Optimization of Maintenance Processes with Extended Reality and Digital Twins”.

As part of the OptXR research project in collaboration with the SBB, the doctoral student from Prof. Bryan Adey’s Chair of Infrastructure Management presented the development of a digital twin system integrated with an extended reality interface for train boarding systems, which will provide maintenance staff with holographic displays that present real-time status information, fault diagnosis results, and step-by-step guidance, aiming to improve the efficiency and accuracy of inspections and maintenance processes.
