D-BAUG Lighthouse Projekt: E-Bike City

D-BAUG Lighthouse Projekt: E-Bike City

Project description

E-Bike City is a lighthouse project of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (D-BAUG) at ETH Zurich. Over the next three years, seven chairs will join forces to explore the effects of an urban future giving absolute priority to cycling, micromobility and public transport.

The Infrastructure Management chair is responsible for one of nine subprojects, titled “Costs of creating an e-bike-city”. While other subprojects address the changes to mobility and the infrastructure required to enable the e-bike-city, and the quantification of the resulting environmental benefits, this subproject is focused on the costs. The particular costs considered are

• the costs of converting the existing infrastructure into e-bike infrastructure and
• the change in the accidents risks that can be expected.

Of course, with the goal of enabling the e-bike-city, the least expensive and lowest risk options will be identified. This will include consideration of how the infrastructure will be modified stepwise over time and the uncertainty related to future mobility patterns, including how infrastructure implementation will stepwise affect demand.
