About us
The Infrastructure Management Group mission is to improve the construction and management of infrastructure with special attention focused on the improvement of decision making from general planning for entire networks to detailed planning for specific projects. This mission is being achieved through teaching the fundamentals of infrastructure management to our students, and pushing the forefronts of knowledge in the field of infrastructure management through our research.
More specifically, we believe that substantial increases in the net-benefit of our infrastructure are possible by automating much, if not all, of the infrastructure management process, leaving decision makers with only the tasks to decide their goals and constraints, how they value outcomes, and the analysis and continual improvement of the process itself. This mission requires firstly the professionalization of infrastructure management and then methodologically enabling parts of the process to be automated.
We transform this general mission into the following teaching and research missions:
Teaching mission: To develop infrastructure managers focused on maximizing the net benefit of infrastructure.
Research mission: To enable the automation of infrastructure management.
